Updating to Windows 10 Version 22H2

Revised Jan. 8 2024, by Melanie McNutt

Many divisional computers are running older versions of Windows 10 (1709, 1909, 20H2 or 21H2) and must be updated to version 22H2. Please use the steps below to determine if your computer needs the update and, if so, install it prior to Jan. 29, 2023. Doing so will let you control when the update occurs.

Devices not updated by the communicated deadline will be scheduled to receive automatic updates. To balance network traffic and troubleshooting of issues, technicians will push the update out to 15% of the division’s computers each week on Thursday evenings in February of 2023. If you opt to wait for an automatic update, please make a habit of saving your work in all applications frequently.

Does my computer need the update?

  • In the search field next to the Windows Start icon, type cmd.

    ""

  • Select the Command Prompt app to launch it.
  • At the prompt, type winver, then press Enter on your keyboard.

    ""

  • The "About Windows" information displays, showing the version of Windows installed on your computer. If it lists any version besides 22H2, please follow the instructions to update your computer.

    ""

When should I update, and how long does it take?

  • Choose a time at the beginning of your shift or when you can work without your computer for a little while.
  • The update takes anywhere from one hour to four hours to install, but you can continue to use the computer during that time.
  • After installation, a restart is required and could take up to an hour.
  • You can delay the restart if needed, but during the restart, you cannot use the device.

Instructions for Updating

Before updating, if you are working from an off-campus location, please be sure to connect through the Virtual Private Network. 1. Sign in to your computer.
IMPORTANT: If you are working from an off-campus location, you will also have to connect through the F5 Virtual Private Network (VPN).

    ""

  3. Click to open the Software Center desktop application.
