Overview
Upon receiving a new RHS PC, or after signing in to a shared RHS PC for the first time, Outlook requires a few short setup steps in order to connect to your Spartan Mail account, described below. If you encounter any difficulty following these steps on your RHS device, please contact the DSS Service Desk for further assistance.
Most PCs will have both Outlook (new) and Outlook (classic) available, which have slightly differing setup steps, detailed in this article.
You can tell the difference by searching Windows for "Outlook" - the new version of Outlook will just appear as "Outlook", and Outlook Classic may also appear as Outlook (classic) as shown below, if installed. New Outlook has a rounded icon, while Outlook (Classic) has a more squarely designed icon. Generally, the new version of Outlook is advised, though both are functional.

Follow the steps below to set up Outlook with your MSU email account, depending on whether you are using the new version of Outlook, or Outlook (Classic).
Configuring New Outlook to Connect to Spartan Mail
1. Open the new version of Outlook using the search bar located in the taskbar.

2. A window reading "Signing you into the new Outlook for Windows" will appear. Likely, the email below will be incorrect, reading as YourNetID@rhsnet.rhs.msu.edu, rather than the correct email address YourNetID@msu.edu. Click the "Close Outlook" button at the bottom of the pop-up window.

3. Repeat step 1, reopening the new version of Outlook after closing. You will now see the screen below welcoming you to the new Outlook, where your email address can be edited. Verify your email address is netid@msu.edu, NOT netid@rhsnet.rhs.msu.edu. Choose "continue" after verifying your email address.

4. You will see the loading message below, letting you know you are being signed in to Outlook. Allow a few minutes for this to complete.

5. After a short wait, a new sign-in window will appear, shown below. Log in using your primary MSU NetID account credentials, and approve with two-factor authentication.

6. After signing in, select "yes" when asked to sign into all apps, websites, and services on this device (this will only affect your profile while signed in to the PC, so this is OK for shared devices)

7. A confirmation window will appear, confirming that the account has been added to the device. Choose "done".
8. Outlook will now open, and display your mailbox. Outlook will begin syncing your email, beginning with newest emails and proceeding back in time to older emails. You may need to close and reopen Outlook after opening it for the first time, if you are still prompted to activate Outlook or Office apps after the above steps. After reopening Outlook, this should no longer occur.
Configuring Outlook (Classic) to Connect to Spartan Mail
1. Open Outlook (Classic) using the search bar located in the taskbar.

2. Sign in using MSU email address and click Connect.

3. Verify your email address is netid@msu.edu, NOT netid@rhsnet.rhs.msu.edu. Choose "continue" after verifying your email address.

4. Select the "password" option to sign in.

5. Enter password and select verify.

6. Select preferred authentication method and verify.

7. Select "yes" when asked to sign into all apps, websites, and services on this device (this will only affect your profile while signed in to the PC, so this is OK for shared devices)

8. Select Done.

9. Select Done. Setting up Outlook on mobile device instructions are below.

10. Select Sign in to set up office.

11. Enter MSU Email and select next.

12. Outlook is now signed in and will begin syncing your email, beginning with newest emails and proceeding back in time to older emails. You may need to close and reopen Outlook after opening it for the first time, if you are still prompted to activate after the above steps.
Adding Shared Mailboxes, Shared Calendars, and Other Features to Your Outlook Profile
Outlook users have the ability to add shared mailboxes or calendars that you have been granted access to within your Outlook configuration. Articles with step-by-step instructions are available in this Knowledge Base article section, depending on which version of Outlook you are using, and the task you would like to perform.
