How do I sign up for Password Self-Service?

For a downloadable pdf user guide with screen shots, click to view or open the file attached to this article.

The Password Self-Service system gives you the power to manage your RHS computer password using a website. While the DSS Service Desk is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., this system gives you round-the-clock control of your password. Register now at password.rhs.msu.edu, and set up three security questions.

Once you have registered, you can return to the site to reset your account if it becomes locked, or to change your settings or security questions. You may also use the new “forgot my password” link from the login page of a Windows 7 RHS computer. For Windows 10 computers, click the “Sign in Options” link, followed by the key icon. Then click “Open the Password Self Service Site.”

Steps to register:

  1. In a web browser, navigate to password.rhs.msu.edu.
  2. Enter your username (also known as your NetID).
  3. Type the letters and numbers you see displayed in the picture in the field provided, then click OK
  4. On the ”One Identity Password Manager” page, click the “My Questions and Answers Profile” link.
  5. Enter your RHS computer password, when prompted, and click NEXT.
  6. Select two security questions and type in your answers.
  7. In the "Create you own question" fields, type a question and answer that only you would know, then click NEXT.
  8. You are all done!  Exit the system using the X in the upper right corner or you can click “Go to home page” to see all the functions available in the system.

At any time after registering you may return to password.rhs.msu.edu to:

  • Reset your password if you have forgotten it.
  • Manage your code word and private questions.
  • Change your RHS Network Password.
  • Unlock your account (if it gets locked from too many failed login attempts).

In the future, if you forget your password, you may use the “forgot my password” link from the login page of a Windows 7 RHS computer.

For Windows 10 computers, click the “Sign in Options” link, followed by the key icon. Then click “Open the Password Self Service Site.” Reset your password, then return to the login page. Click the small key icon to sign in with your new password.

If you have questions or need help with registration or login, please call the DSS Service Desk at 517-353-1691 (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm).
